Blender Foundation had recently released Sintel.

The Durian Open Movie Project is a short animation completely done in Blender, using open-source software. You can download it for free in full HD resolution or buy Sintel 4 DVD Box Set on the Blender Store to support a free software.

Personally I am not using Blender because it is free it is because it is good. There are many good things inside, I prefer over other commercial software packages.
